The green building
TAEQ’s research and education initiatives are headquartered in the Green Building, an eco-friendly, cultural heritage structure
created with support from the BERACHA Foundation.
The facility is a hybrid design that beautifully incorporates traditional Arab architecture with modern technologies. Built from natural and local raw materials, and incorporating energy and water saving elements, the Green Building demonstrates construction principles that reduce a building's ecological footprint while providing comfortable conditions in both summer and winter. Outfitted with wind and solar generators, the building draws only a minimal amount of electricity from the local power grid.
Equipped with wind turbines and solar panels, the building draws only a minimal amount of electricity from the local power grid. The Green Building is a walk-through laboratory, where students can investigate green engineering principles. The innovative architecture attracts many visitors from all over the world.
In 2006, we won 1st place of the European Union-funded MED-ENEC award. The prize grant funded the addition of energy conservation and renewable energy structures.
The Green Building and its environmental programs have won several local and international awards, including the 2012 Guangzhou Urban Innovation Award (Finalist), the 2014 SEED Award, the 2014 Public Interest Design Award, and the 2016 INTBAU Excellence Awards (Honorable Mention).
