project EU- LIFE
Water conservation is
vital in the arid Middle East. This three-year project on wastewater treatment was
conducted in cooperation with Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Wastewater,
if treated improperly, may cause severe health problems, odor problems, and the
effluents may damage soil and water resources (surface and underground water).
If properly treated, the effluent may be reused for agriculture as a substitute
for potable water. Both countries, Israel and Turkey, have a high interest in the
beneficial development of low-cost treatment technologies. Within this
bi-national project, two Turkish graduate students from ITU came to the Sakhnin
Center to conduct research work on the LIFE facilities as part of their
graduate research.
